Debaters Compete in Prestigious Oxford Schools Finals
On Saturday 11 March, RGS Worcester Debaters competed in the prestigious Oxford Schools Finals Day. The event took place at the Oxford Union and was contested over four preliminary rounds, deciding which teams would progress to the Semi-finals and eventually, the Grand Final.
The competition was fierce, with 116 teams from across the United Kingdom and the world gathering in Oxford to debate. Katherine McCabe and Annabelle Howarth, Year Eleven, performed admirably against some of the finest Debating schools in the country, achieving an impressive 2nd place finish in Round 4. The topics ranged from the restriction of Artificial Intelligence to the pros and cons of career politicians, none of which fazed the RGS Debaters.
It was also brilliant to see our Debating Coach and RGS Alumna, Elizabeth McCabe, at the competition, providing expert feedback to the Debaters and going on to adjudicate the Novice Final.
The competition was won by CBC Monkstown Park, and we now look forward to the next challenge of two pairs of our Debaters competing at the Cambridge Schools Finals Day on Saturday 18 March to close another immensely successful Debating season for RGS Worcester.
