‘Cherishing the past’ – RGS Worcester is Britain’s 5th oldest School
Spear’s magazine contacted RGS Worcester at the beginning of term because they wanted to run a feature about ‘Britain’s oldest schools’.
Only five schools were included and RGS Worcester was numbered 5th oldest. The detailed text provided by the Headmaster (and History teacher) was unfortunately edited down, but we can be proud to be included alongside illustrious and ancient schools:
1) The King’s School, Canterbury – 597AD
2) The King’s School, Rochester – 604AD
3) St Peter’s School, York – 627AD
4) Thetford Grammar School – 631AD
5) Royal Grammar School Worcester – 685AD
