‘Cherishing the past’: ‘50s, ‘60s & ‘70s Pupils Reunited
It was an absolute pleasure to welcome back leavers from the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s on Saturday 24 September. The day began with refreshments and a welcome in our Performing Arts Centre, much admired by our guests, before the groups departed for tours of the School with current RGS Prefects.
The tours provided the perfect balance of reliving memories of school days, along with enjoying the newer facilities on site. Everyone particularly enjoyed spotting familiar names on the honours boards and reading the names of staff who have served 25 years or more. Alumni thoroughly enjoyed hearing about RGS today from our Prefects who in turn learnt a huge amount about their School in the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s.
During lunch in Perrins Hall, alumni chatted with friends, looking over archive displays and listening to a few words from Headmaster John Pitt, Foundation Director Scott MacDonald and Head of Rugby Rob Lewis.
In the afternoon, guests headed to Flagge Meadow where they enjoyed RGS 1st XV putting on an admirable show against Pate’s Grammar School. Alumni especially appreciated a little trip down memory lane with orange slices at half time, even saying they felt ready to get on the pitch for the second half.
The day was a great success and great fun, with alumni looking forward to revisiting again soon.
