Celebrating Senior Hockey
On Thursday 26 January we celebrated Hockey at RGS with the Senior Girls’ Hockey Dinner.
At RGS Worcester we are fortunate to be able to run both our Netball and Hockey programmes over two terms and as we are drawing closer to the end of the season, the Hockey Dinner provided the perfect opportunity to celebrate the success of the season so far.
Head of Hockey Liaison & Head of Hockey, Miss Leanne Bennett commented, “It was a fantastic evening to celebrate Girls’ Hockey and a great occasion to mark the success of Hockey this year. The Hockey Programme continues to develop from strength to strength as do our players and I am so proud of all they have achieved so far!”
Pupils from Year Nine to the Upper Sixth dressed glamorously for the occasion and were treated to a wonderful three course meal provided by our expert catering team. Later in the evening a special mention of thanks was given to the Upper Sixth pupils for their significant contribution to Girls’ Hockey as well as Captain of the 1st XI team, Ellie Nicholls, who has led the senior squad by example with great pride and passion this season.
The evening also provided an opportunity to thank the Hockey coaches and members of teaching staff for their support throughout the Hockey season. A personalised video message was played from Janne Müller-Wieland, a German field hockey player who competed in the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. Janne holds over 250 caps for Germany, and has captained her national team, winning medals at Olympic and European championships. Janne spoke about what it takes to play at the elite level with her advice resonating with the RGS Charter for Sport, to be resolute, gracious, selfless and willing. We are so grateful to Janne for giving her time to provide such a motivational and inspiring speech to pupils.
Congratulations to those whose achievements this season were recognised through the Awards and for the Senior Girls’ contribution to team sport.
Our thanks go to everyone who attended the event, making it a thoroughly enjoyable evening. A special thank you to our Hockey coaches, teaching staff, support staff and the catering team for providing an excellent meal, worthy of the occasion.
