Celebrating Harvest Festival
With the feeling that Autumn has very much arrived this week, the RGS Worcester Family of Schools enjoyed their Harvest Festival celebrations and assemblies.
Lower School pupils at RGS Worcester celebrated Harvest Festival in Lower School assembly this week and generously donated tins and packaged food to support the local community. Head of Lower School, Mrs Angie Newport said: “The produce will go to The Maggs Day Centre in Worcester and will help those who really need it in the coming winter months. I was so thrilled as Head of Lower School with the response from the pupils to help to support this very important local charity and thank them all as their generous donations will all now go to such a great cause.”
Pupils at RGS Dodderhill also enjoyed a special Harvest celebration and collected food and essential supplies to aid the Droitwich Food Bank. The children in the RGS Dodderhill Nursery very much enjoyed exploring all of the seasonal vegetables and fruit, talking about the colours, smells, textures and shapes of food and encouraging children’s language and communication skills.
RGS The Grange saw a bountiful collection of food donations arrive at School this week which will be donated to the Worcester Food Bank and distributed to help support local families. Children in the RGS The Grange Nursery enjoyed a ‘spooktacular’ morning dressed in costumes and enjoyed pumpkin carving and lots of messy play.
At RGS Springfield, donations of food were collected to split between the Food Bank and also for Mrs Suzanne Thomas, Springfield Cook, to continue her charitable work with the Worcester Street Cafe´. Suzanne said: “Thank you to all of the families who have so generously supported us by donating supplies to help continue our work to provide hungry families in Worcester City with nutritious, home-cooked food. Being able to use the kitchen facilities at RGS Springfield to prepare this food is an invaluable contribution and which allows us to continue this work.”
Children in Nursery and Reception classes at RGS Springfield also explored food in a very creative way during Forest School this week, carving pumpkins and making some rather scrumptious chocolate apples!
These donations are in addition to the year-round fundraising that our Schools’ participates in. During the 2020-2021 Academic year alone, RGS Schools raised over £22,000 to support local charities including Worcester Street Kitchen and St Richards Hospice. Thank you to RGS pupils and families for your generous donations to help support others in our local community.
