A Bright Future Ahead for Girls’ Tennis
Despite a loss to Bromsgrove School’s experienced side, which included two international players, the RGS Girls’ Tennis team played some fantastic Tennis in close fought matches which did not finish until 7.30pm last Wednesday evening.
Our youngest player Daisy Williams in Year Seven, showed resilience and determination in her match against a Sixth Form student and won 6-4, 6-4. Another young RGS player Emma McKay had a 6-3, 6-3 loss but played brilliantly against tough opposition. Captain Alice Dudley and Sophia Jenkins-Howard, RGS Number One, lost their matches to two of the county’s top-seeded players, with both RGS players displaying some superb Tennis.
We went into the doubles 3-1 down; Alice and Sophia fought hard but lost their match and Daisy and Emma’s match had a very tight finish, with a nail-biting match tie-break after one set all and the pair only just lost with a 10-8 result in the third set. Players battled through weather of all seasons in just one afternoon, with play ending under a beautiful rainbow!
This was a great team effort and, as with Boys’ Tennis, Girls’ Tennis is looking bright for the future at RGS.
