Athletics Achievements for Upper Sixth Pupil Alex Houchin
We are delighted to share the incredible achievements of RGS Upper Sixth student, Alex Houchin who has seen recent achievements in a number of national and international Athletics championships.
At the Nationals on Sunday 4 June. Alex reached the final of the Under 20 400m event, finishing 4th with a new personal best of 47.69 seconds. This marked his fourth personal best in just five races, ranking him 5th in the country.
Following his Nationals success, Alex represented Great Britain in Mannheim, Germany last weekend where he delivered outstanding performances. He won his individual 400m event with a new personal best of 47.62 seconds. Additionally, Alex led the 4x400m relay team to victory, setting a new Meeting record and World No.2 time of 3:07.69.
Alex’s remarkable achievements include his selection for the upcoming English Schools event, where he will proudly represent RGS and Hereford and Worcestershire Schools.
Alex comments: “The Mannheim International was an incredible experience, and one that will stay with me for a long time. I’ve learnt a lot about how competing in athletics works at the international level, and I believe I can use this experience to further develop my Athletics career. The whole experience has been quite overwhelming as in the space of four weeks, I have gone from never running a competitive 400m to representing my country in the event. It was also great to see my hard work and months of training pay off, especially after missing the entire last season due to a hamstring injury. I want to thank those around me at School who have supported me in my journey from injury to this point, particularly Ollie Biddle and Cia Swingler who have both provided me with sound advice and guidance, also, my family and Coach, Mike Bennett, whose help and training has been invaluable throughout the experience”.
Congratulations to Alex on his incredible achievements. The RGS community wishes him the best of luck at the English Schools this weekend.
