Art Scholars contribute to sculpture for Royal Worcester Museum
This week, the Art Department’s Scholars were invited to attend a drawing workshop at the Museum of Royal Worcester, with professional artists from ‘Planet Art’ who have been commissioned by the Royal Worcester Porcelain Museum to make an exterior public artwork to celebrate the Museum Collection.
The young artists were given a brief history of the museum and how it all began with a generous donation by Dyson Perrins’ own personal collection of Worcester Porcelain. The museum houses the world’s largest collection of Worcester Porcelain, with collections dating back to 1751 and there really was something for everyone to enjoy. The artists then set off to explore the vast displays and were encouraged to find items to sketch which appealed to them personally. They were then asked to create a sketched design sheet full of visual inspiration.
The drawings produced in the workshop by our pupils, together with those from other schools in Worcester, will be used to inspire the formation of the commissioned public artwork, which will then stand proudly in The Courtyard. The Art Scholars were really impressed with the amount of visual inspiration which was available to them and took advantage of the wonderful use of pattern, shape and imagery, to create their exciting and detailed design sheets. The professional artists from Planet Art commented on how strong their drawings were and how their passion for using historical information to inspire their ideas, really did shine through.
We look forward to seeing the designs for the Public Art Sculpture evolve and feel proud to have been invited to participate in helping to design an exciting new artwork for our wonderful city.
