Alumna Returns for Work Experience
It is always wonderful to see former RGS pupils return to their School for various reasons and this week we had the pleasure of welcoming back Alumna Bethan Standing for a week of work experience in the Marketing Department.
Bethan attended RGS Worcester for four years, joining in Year Ten, completing her GCSES and then enjoying the Sixth Form, studying A Levels in Geography, Psychology and Fine Art. She was involved in a wide range of Co-curricular activities including Drama and Sport. She says, “My favourite memory was backstage during the production of Billy Elliott” in which she played one of the lead roles of ‘Mrs Wilkinson’. Bethan also represented RGS as a Rower, competing in the National Junior Sculling Head at Dorney Lake, an opportunity which she describes as “amazing”.
Since starting University, Bethan has continued to participate in Co-curricular activities, with Dance classes and singing in the Choir, and she is hoping to join the Athletics team. Currently, Bethan is studying Psychology at the University of Exeter, where she is enjoying the challenge of learning about how people’s behaviour and social interactions are shaped by their biology and previous experiences. Bethan comments that she chose to study Psychology because she found it interesting and fascinating.
Previously, Bethan completed a week of work experience in the Advertising and Marketing department at an international Law firm called Gowling WLG. In returning to RGS and joining the Marketing team for a week, she hopes to gain new skills in Marketing and get a feel for a different workplace. She also wanted to gain a clearer idea of the elements of Marketing she particularly enjoys, which will help her to focus on future work experience and job applications. A highlight of this week was seeing the process involved in website design, she found it interesting to see the complex thought process behind the design.
Returning to RGS for work experience has been an enjoyable experience and Bethan comments “It has been lovely to catch up with my teachers and to see familiar faces. Additionally, it has been an opportunity to view the School from a different perspective and see what goes on behind the scenes”.
Bethan believes RGS prepared her for University life by shaping her into a quietly confident person saying, “Before joining RGS, I lacked confidence and was shy. However, my time at RGS helped me to realise that I am capable of achieving top grades with hard work and determination. Additionally, RGS encouraged me to explore my passion for the Arts and Sports, which led to some of my happiest School memories”.
We wish Bethan all the best in her studies and work experience and thank her for joining us. We are always delighted to welcome back former pupils and are happy to offer support wherever and whenever we can!
