A Fond Farewell
When the Upper Sixth went on study leave we also gave Mrs Mary Stephen, Head of Psychology, a send-off as she moved on to her new job as a Child Psychologist working at Worcester First.
Mrs Stephen joined RGS in September 2021 to set up the Psychology Department by introducing the subject at A Level. She then took on the lead of the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). Mrs Stephen was the ideal person to start our Psychology provision, having previously worked as Head of Psychology, EPQ Coordinator and Deputy IB Coordinator at Malvern College. Although she had to contend with the Covid-19 Pandemic, students flocked to the subject and praise Mrs Stephen for her excellent teaching, her assistance in organising the EPQ, and her support to each student in her care as a Form Tutor.
The setting up of Psychology at RGS has proved extremely popular with large numbers of pupils now choosing the subject at A Level. Psychology complements many other subjects and several of Mary’s students now go on to study Psychology degrees at University.
Mrs Balloo, who was appointed as a Psychology teacher to work with Mrs Stephen, has taken on running the Psychology department and teaching the Lower Sixth students for the rest of the Trinity term. In September, Mrs Charlotte Skipp, herself already a Head of Psychology in an independent school in Stratford, takes on the post and we look forward to welcoming her.
We extend our thanks to Mrs Stephen for her fabulous contribution to RGS and to school life and wish her the best of luck for the future. She remains very much connected with the School since her husband, Dr Stephen, is a Chemistry teacher here and her children attend RGS.
