Starting a journey of discovery and exploration
The RGS Journey begins with Nursery and Reception, where young children embark on a journey of discovery and exploration through play-based learning. Our Nurseries and Reception classes offer a vibrant and nurturing environment where children are fully engaged in fun and exciting activities that stimulate their curiosity and encourage their natural creativity.
we focus on building a solid foundation of knowledge, skills, and confidence that will prepare children for a smooth transition to reception class when they turn four.
Importance of Early Years Education
At our two nurseries in Worcester, RGS Springfield, RGS The Grange, and our nursery in Droitwich, RGS Dodderhill, we are passionate about creating a magical and positive first experience of school for all children.
After their home, nursery and then school is the next most important place for most children. It is proven that children’s early experiences have a significant impact on their later life. In the first five years, children develop physically, cognitively and emotionally at a faster rate than at any other time. We understand that a child’s early years are crucial for their development, and we are committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating environment where they can thrive. Our focus is on building a solid foundation of knowledge, skills, and confidence that will prepare children for a smooth transition to Reception class when they turn four.
The emphasis is on ensuring the happiness and well-being of every pupil and nurturing their individual talents, allowing their learning and confidence to grow in leaps and bounds.

Play-based learning
At each of our three Nursery settings, we strive to provide the best possible environment for children to grow and learn. With a wide range of daily activities, there is always something new and exciting to keep your child engaged and stimulated. Our indoor and outdoor facilities are designed to be safe, welcoming, and conducive to learning. From cosy reading corners to the open, green and secure Forest Schools, each space is carefully crafted to support your child’s development and encourage exploration and creativity.
Nurturing relationships
What really sets us apart are our Nursery practitioners. We believe that the key to providing exceptional care is to foster strong, nurturing relationships between children and their caregivers. Our practitioners are highly educated, experienced, and passionate about early childhood development. They take the time to get to know each child, building trust and rapport and tailoring their approach to meet the individual needs and interests of every child.

Early Years Curriculum
The Reception class curriculum emphasises the crucial role of foundational learning skills, which form the basis for future academic success. These prime areas are integral to all learning in Reception and include:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Being able to negotiate, consider the ideas and needs of others, empathise and work successfully as part of a team - Communication and Language
Being able to process and follow instructions, having the confidence to communicate freely and express themselves as a learner, and being able to listen attentively in a range of situations - Physical Development
Developing the control and coordination needed for both small and large movements, using tools effectively, negotiating space and understanding the need for physical exercise, a healthy diet and how to keep yourself healthy and safe.

Transitioning from Nursery to Reception and beyond
We are proud to offer our care to children from the age of two up until school age. Whether your child is just starting out on their learning journey or is already a seasoned explorer, we have something to offer. We take our responsibilities seriously and are committed to creating a warm, supportive, and stimulating environment where children can thrive.
By providing this welcoming environment, we aim to instil a love of learning that will stay with children throughout their entire academic journey.
Reception at RGS Worcester Family of Schools
In Reception class, teachers work hard to embed positive attitudes towards school and learning, in addition to setting the expectations for children’s behaviour and building a sound understanding of key concepts such as reading and numbers.
It is believed that children who are taught well in their first year of school go on to achieve better GCSE results in English and Mathematics.
Reception classes are available at RGS Springfield, RGS Dodderhill and RGS The Grange. Small class sizes and specialist teaching make these schools a great start for your child’s education. Your child will cover Maths, English, reading, writing, PE, Technology, French, Music and Forest School. As leaders in technology in a school environment, all pupils are introduced to iPads and interactive whiteboards to aid with their learning.
Each school opens at 7.45 am* until 6.00 pm, which for those parents working full-time ensures your child is looked after and spends quality time with friends. The core school day is 8.30 am – 3.35 pm (times do vary slightly at each of the schools), and children are required to be at school during this time.
The schools offer a Holiday Club for children, allowing for continued childcare outside of term time. This is bookable in advance and subject to availability.
