Pupils Awarded for Creativity and Teamwork at LEGO Spike Event
The LEGO Spike event, held at the University of Birmingham’s Edgbaston campus, proved to be a highly engaging and educational experience for our pupils. Following an insightful introduction to sustainability in engineering from University lecturers, pupils embarked on a design challenge that encouraged them to apply these principles in the creation of their LEGO Spike robots. This hands-on activity offered valuable opportunities for analysis, problem-solving, and collaboration, as evidenced by the thoughtful discussions and shared learning observed throughout the day.
Beyond the competitive matches, the event offered a valuable glimpse into the diverse fields of engineering and computer science, further enhanced by a tour of the University of Birmingham’s facilities. The demonstration of a sophisticated robot dog particularly sparked interest and provided valuable insight into future career paths. One pupil keenly noted the importance of “teamwork” and “learning from mistakes”, reflecting the key values promoted by the programme.
We are proud to announce that our teams achieved significant recognition for their efforts, securing 2nd and 3rd place overall! These accomplishments, combined with individual accolades for robot design, innovation, and coaching, demonstrate the pupils’ creativity, problem-solving skills, and collaborative spirit. The event undoubtedly left a lasting positive impact, inspiring our pupils to further explore the world of STEM.
