RGS Rugby 7s Season Starts with Success
The Rugby 7s season at RGS Worcester has begun with great promise, featuring notable achievements and impressive silverware.
The Under 18 squad commenced the season in outstanding fashion, securing the Trophy at the Collegiate School Festival. This success was swiftly followed by the Under 14s, who claimed the Cup at the Old Swinford Tom Mole Memorial Tournament with a commanding 29-12 victory over Bromsgrove School in the final. The Under 14s maintained their strong form at the Warwick Festival, progressing to the Cup Final after finishing first in their group, which included a closely contested 21-21 draw against Sedbergh School. The team eventually lost to Sedbergh in the final but held their heads high after a very impressive day. Their final tournament before the prestigious Rosslyn Park National Schools 7s saw the team add to their trophy haul by winning the Plate at the Solihull School Rugby 7s Tournament.
The Under 18 Girls have had an intensive and highly competitive fixture schedule in preparation for the Rosslyn Park National Schools Rugby 7s Tournament, reflecting the continued growth and ambition of the Girls’ Rugby programme at RGS Worcester. With a strong emphasis on development, the squad has faced high-calibre opposition in triangular tournaments and friendly fixtures, gaining invaluable experience and showcasing their progress. This expanding fixture list highlights the School’s commitment to supporting excellence in Girls’ Rugby, ensuring the team is well-prepared to compete at the highest level on the national stage.
Meanwhile, our Under 13 and Under 12 teams have also impressed in their respective waterfall tournaments, both advancing to the top-tier final stages after strong performances in the group rounds. We remain optimistic that this promising start will continue into the second half of the Rugby 7s season for our Lower School teams.
For the second consecutive year, RGS Worcester had the privilege of co-hosting ‘The Schools Championship 7s’ Tournament at Sixways Stadium, an event that brought together the country’s leading Rugby-playing schools. This high-calibre competition provided our players and staff with an invaluable opportunity to compete, learn, and engage with some of the most talented young rugby players and elite school programmes in the nation. It was an honour for the School to co-host such a prestigious event, and we look forward to strengthening our partnership with ‘The Schools Championship’ in the years to come.
As we approach the end of March, preparations for Rosslyn Park continue in earnest. With five RGS Worcester teams set to compete, we remain quietly confident in their ability to achieve success on the national stage.
