Navigating the Digital World: Supporting Parents in the AI Era
We were delighted to welcome Year Seven and Eight parents to our latest Digital Parenting event, an evening designed to provide valuable insight and practical guidance on the challenges young people face in an ever-evolving digital landscape. The event featured three key sessions:
- The Internet is Written in Ink – Assistant Head Academic, Dr Davies explored the importance of managing a child’s digital footprint and ensuring online safety.
- The Risks of Sharing Imagery – Assistant Head (Designated Safeguarding Lead), Mrs Nicholls provided essential advice on the dangers of online sharing and strategies for prevention.
- The Challenges for Children in the AI Era – A thought-provoking session examining the opportunities and risks presented by Artificial Intelligence.
The final session offered a closer look at six key challenges AI presents to young people, including the ethical dilemmas of AI-assisted plagiarism, the impact of over-reliance on technology, and the importance of understanding misinformation, privacy, and future career prospects. Live demonstrations using AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Google AI Studio, and Claude AI illustrated how these tools can generate misleading content but also enhance learning when used effectively.
The evening provided an invaluable opportunity for parents to engage with these topics and gain a deeper understanding of how to support their children in navigating the digital world. At RGS Worcester, we are committed to equipping our pupils with the skills and awareness they need to thrive in an increasingly digital age, and we are grateful to all those who attended and contributed to the discussion.
