RGS Worcester’s High-Performance Netball Pathway
RGS Worcester is rapidly establishing itself as a centre of excellence for Netball, offering elite coaching, access to high-performance programmes, and a clear pathway for aspiring players. With a coaching team boasting national and international experience, the School is dedicated to developing the next generation of Netball players.
Leading the programme is Head of Netball, Rebecca Gwilliam who captains Worcester Reds Premier 3 and is a UKCC Level 2 qualified coach. She leads the Birmingham Panthers Player Development Programme (PDP) and Emerging Talent Programme (ETP), coaches Worcester Netball Club’s Under 16s, and has been a sports therapist for the Swiss National Netball Team since 2020. She is also a Swiss National Team selector for the 2025 Europe Netball Open Event.
Joining her is Netball Professional Rebekah Airey, a former Netball Super League player for Severn Stars and England, who brings professional-level expertise to RGS Worcester.
In addition to Rebecca and Rebekah we are lucky enough to also have the talented Tanya Lategan, a former Assistant Coach for South Africa Under 15 and Under 16 teams at the World Indoor Netball Series, Tanya has been coaching at county level since 2000. Alongside her is Georgina Harwood, Head of Netball at UWE Bristol, who co-coaches Worcester Royals Reds Mixed and is the Assistant Coach for Birmingham Panthers ETP. Specialist shooting coaching is provided by Sari Watkins, a Wales Under 21 international and Birmingham Panthers NXT GEN player who competed at the 2023 Netball World Cup in Cape Town.
The coaching team has experience playing for Loughborough Lightning, Manchester Thunder, Leeds Rhinos, and Severn Stars, with former England representation between 2013 and 2020.
RGS Worcester is also the proud home of the Birmingham Panthers PDP (Under 19) and ETP (Under 16), providing high-level training for talented young netballers. Training sessions take place on Wednesday evenings from 5.30-8.30pm, with trials for the next season available on the Birmingham Panthers website and social media.
To further support player development, the School offers a Strength & Conditioning (S&C) programme, ensuring athletes have the physical attributes needed to compete at the highest level.
With the ‘Sisters n Sport’ plate final on 20 March and ‘Superball’ on 22 March for the Senior teams, exciting times are here for Netball at RGS! With exceptional coaching and a strong commitment to performance, RGS Worcester continues to raise the bar for school Netball.
