Olivia and Lucy Impress at World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals
Last weekend, Olivia Hodgson and Lucy Whiteley showcased their Rowing talent at the World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals, delivering excellent performances.
On Friday, Olivia competed in the Under 19 Solo event, finishing 7th out of 22 in the time trials, securing her place in Saturday’s knockouts. Racing in the Under 19 Women’s Double, Lucy also placed 7th, earning a spot in Sunday’s knockouts.
Saturday saw Olivia take on a formidable opponent from Germany in her knockout race. Despite a stellar effort, she was narrowly defeated at the buzzer. In the Double, Lucy triumphed against Italy in her knockout race, advancing to the quarter-finals. In a nail-biting quarter-final, Great Britain faced Spain and, after a closely contested race, Spain won and then went on to win the Silver medal in the final.
This follows a highly successful summer of competition, with Olivia representing Great Britain at the Coupe de la Jeunesse, an international Rowing event in the Czech Republic. Meanwhile, Lucy claimed victory in the Welsh Under 19 Beach Sprint Championships, which led to her selection for the GB team.
Congratulations to both Lucy and Olivia for their impressive achievements!
