Fencers Secure Summer Success and International Selection
RGS Worcester fencers have returned to action with superb achievements over the summer and early autumn, showcasing their dedication and skill on the national and international stage.
Zara Martin-Green took a significant step forward by attending the British Fencing Coach Education course at KES Stratford. Impressively, she passed her Level 2 Coaching qualification, adding this accolade to her existing status as a qualified referee and GB fencer.
Emily De Bono travelled to Moulton on Saturday 7 September to compete in the Elite Epee Junior Series, part of the British Under 14 Ranking Circuit. Emily displayed excellent form, winning three out of six pool fights, and narrowly losing two others by a single hit. Her performance seeded her 7th, and she advanced to the last 16, winning her fight 12-10. Although she was edged out in the quarter-finals by the number 2 seed in a closely fought 12-11 battle, Emily’s fencing was outstanding, and she finished the event ranked 7th overall.
Issy Pottinger has had a particularly busy summer, participating in two major competitions. On 13 July, she competed in the British Senior Championships in Sheffield, the top adult open competition in the country, finishing just outside the top 64. On 28 July, Issy travelled to Cardiff for a Cadet British Ranking Circuit competition, where she placed 20th in her age group.
Combined with her 10th place finish at the BRC London in June, these results have earned Issy 19th place on the British Cadet (Under 17) ranking list. We are thrilled to announce that this ranking has led to Issy’s selection for the British Cadet Women’s Epee squad. She will represent Great Britain in her first international competition in Budapest on 14 October. Please join us in congratulating Issy on this fantastic achievement!
It’s been an inspiring start to the season for our fencers, and we wish them continued success in the coming months.
