‘Eggcitement’ at the Annual Science ‘Eggstravaganza’
RGS Worcester held its annual Science ‘Eggstravaganza’ this week to celebrate British Science Week.
The ten-day event taking place between 8-17 March 2024 organised by the British Science Association, is a nationwide celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths, featuring exciting events and activities for all ages.
Pupils from RGS Springfield and RGS The Grange participated in Tuesday’s activities, while 62 pupils from nine local primary schools joined in on Thursday as part of the RGS Outreach and Partnerships Programme.
For both ‘Eggstravaganza’ events, Head of Science, Dr Howard Smith, welcomed the pupils and explained the task. Pupils were challenged to design and build a crane capable of supporting the weight of a 100g mass, using only papercraft straws, pipe-cleaners, a paper cup, string, and card. Groups were given 15 minutes to design their crane and then one hour to build them.
Both events were incredibly successful and enjoyed by all participants. The winners of the Outreach ‘Eggstravaganza’ were as follows:
1st Place – St George’s Catholic Primary School
Runners Up – Broadheath C.E Primary School and Northwick Manor Primary School
Congratulations to all the participants for their hard work and creativity during this exciting celebration of Science. Thank you also to our Teaching and Support staff for supporting this event.
All pupils left with a certificate, a goody bag with a cream egg with the winners taking away a coveted Sphero (coding robot).
