Anticipation Builds for the 10th Annual ‘Superball’ at The University of Worcester Arena
The much-anticipated ‘Superball’ will be played against King’s School at The University of Worcester Arena, on Saturday 9 March. This annual event is one of the sporting highlights of the School calendar, providing an opportunity for our 1st and 2nd Netball teams to showcase their skills on the indoor court at the Arena.
The RGS Senior Netballers have had a successful season so far, qualifying from the County Championships last term and then finishing 4th at the Regional Championships. The teams have played more matches across the two terms than ever before, and the girls also had the opportunity to go on a Tour to Malta during the Autumn Half term. There is strength in depth with our Under 16 side having a successful Netball season and going well in the ‘Sisters n Sport’ competition, with a semi-final ahead.
Once again, in co-operation with The University of Worcester, RGS Worcester and King’s School are able to play Superball for the 10th time in the Arena, competing for The University of Worcester Trophy. The 2nd team match starts at 3.45pm with the 1st team match starting later at 6.00pm. The players are really looking forward to the opportunity to play in these high-profile matches. For some, it will be their first Superball, others such as Captain Izzy Thompson, will bring their expertise, playing for the third time.
Remarkably, RGS sold out its allocated 650 tickets within two days. A further 100 tickets were released by adding more chairs to the RGS side of the Arena and these then sold out, so there will be 750 RGS supporters, and potentially a sell-out audience of 1400 people. It is difficult to imagine another school Netball match being played in front of an audience of this size.
We wish both the RGS teams all the very best and hope that the 2024 ‘Superball’ will be another memorable event to celebrate our girls’ success and enjoyment of sport.
