Celebrating International Women’s Day
This week at RGS Worcester we have celebrated International Women’s Day. Observed around the world on 8 March, International Women’s Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women – and challenges gender bias and inequality. International Women’s Day is powered by the collective efforts of all and is intended to make a positive difference for women.
This year, at RGS as part of marking this event, we decided to recognise the exceptional work done by our Head of Careers, Mrs Audrey Williams. Mrs Williams plays a vital role at RGS with all things Careers, going above and beyond to inspire our pupils about the future education and career opportunities that await them. Mrs Williams joined the School with a wealth of experience, having worked as a Careers Adviser for many years in Reading, Aberdeen, Germany and more recently in Malvern, as well as with the Careers Hub for Worcestershire Careers and Enterprise Company.
Since joining RGS, Mrs Williams has successfully invited a wide range of industry professionals to host Careers seminars showcasing the many career options available to pupils. She has led individual careers guidance workshops and interviews, organised Mock Interviews, work experience, school trips and, most recently, the RGS Careers and Higher Education EXPO – which has seen year on year growth since she joined the award-winning Careers Department. Our EXPO had more exhibitors attending than the ‘What University & What Career’ event at the NEC.
Audrey has a passion for making sure pupils understand the opportunities available to them and emphasises the importance of utilising all that RGS can offer, including providing tailored career action plans.
This week has also been National Careers Week (NCW) which is a one-week celebration of careers guidance and free resources in education across the UK. The aim is to provide a focus for careers guidance activity at an important stage in the academic calendar to help support young people develop awareness and excitement about their future pathways.
At RGS, National Careers Week is every week with the support of Mrs Williams, and we are incredibly grateful for all that she does for pupils at RGS! On International Women’s Day, and every day, we strive to celebrate the unique and invaluable contributions of each one of our female Teachers and Support staff, our pupils and Alumnae. We are grateful for the unique and invaluable contributions made by all.
