Under 14s Triumph At Sevens Festival
The RGS Worcester Under 14 team commenced the School’s Rugby Sevens programme by securing the Shield Trophy at King’s School Sevens festival held at Worcester RFC this week.
The team faced formidable opponents in the initial stages, contending with a strong Sir Thomas Rich’s School and Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, Amman Valley School, which ultimately led them to progress to the Shield tier of the competition.
Throughout the day, the Under 14 players exhibited remarkable development, steadily improving with each game in confidence and adapting to the nuances of the 7-a-side format. A notable highlight was their resilient 19-7 victory against KES Camp Hill in the semi-final, setting the stage for an eagerly anticipated final against Hereford Cathedral School, who had previously defeated King’s School Worcester in their own semi-final fixture.
In the final showdown, RGS Worcester took an early lead, with Nik Izamis scoring two quick tries. This initial advantage proved pivotal as the game fluctuated with both teams experiencing periods of possession. The match concluded with a 29-15 victory in favour of RGS Worcester, allowing Captain Mick Ashton the honour of lifting the first trophy for RGS in the Rugby Sevens 2024 season.
