Mastering Exam Techniques and Henry VII Insights
Upper and Lower Sixth historians had the opportunity to hone their examination technique and their knowledge of Henry VII at an A Level Tudors Conference, attended by around 250 students from across the country.
Lower Sixth student, Jess Lowe writes:
“The RGS A Level History students had the pleasure of attending Hodder Education’s first ‘Tudor Conference’ led by top AQA examiners, Melanie Vance and Keith Milne. After an early morning meet, we travelled down to London and arrived at Conway Hall, Red Lion Square in time for a session teaching students the ideal exam technique for the ever-challenging Interpretation Question. The importance of identifying the main thrust of an extract and forming your own opinion as a historian was greatly emphasised.
During the post-lunch quiz on Henry VII, RGS students dominated the leaderboard with Lower Sixth students in both first and second place. The conference ended with a helpful session on tackling essay questions to achieve cohesive, balanced top-level answers with the application of relevant knowledge as evidence for analysis, rather than narrative accounts. Overall, it was an extremely helpful and enjoyable experience”.
Thank you to the History & Politics department for organising the Conference as part of preparation for success at A Level.
