Greenpower Season Finale at Goodwood International Race Circuit
The final Greenpower race of the season started with a very early morning, with our Racing Team leaving RGS Worcester at 5.00am to travel to the iconic Goodwood race circuit. The enthusiastic team comprised of Year Nine pupils, Amelia Gutteridge, Verity Bond Evans, Alfie Ross, Edward Roberts, Lexi Small, Oliver White and Tom McElhannan.
Upon arrival, the team wasted no time and started practice on the track before setting up for the qualifying race. The race had a thrilling flying start and we finished with a strong place of 12th. Verity Bond Evans completed the second fastest lap, although we did lose part of our wing-mirror on the track – an issue that can easily be resolved back at School where we can make a new one on our 3D printers.
The team then stopped for a well-deserved lunch break and enjoyed the cookies and cakes that they had made.
The international final race started with a parade, where the whole team made their way onto the track and presented our Greenpower car to the crowd that had gathered. The competitors then made way for a McLaren sports car which signalled for the race to begin. Tom McElhannan drove the first leg of the race and sped off into the distance. A few pit stops later, and we anxiously waited to find out the position Lexi Small had finished. We came 19th out of 110 competitors! This is a fantastic achievement in a car that started racing before the current drivers had even been born!
Many thanks to the team and of course Mr Batchelder, Mr Holt, Mr Boss, Mr Stuart, and Mrs Bousfield for giving us this amazing opportunity to drive on these famous race tracks.
