A Season of Cross-Country Successes
The RGS Cross-Country teams give pupils the opportunity to develop their running experience and capabilities, whether they are novices or seasoned runners at club, county, or national level. RGS Worcester pupils have competed in several Cross-Country events over recent weeks.
Hereford and Worcestershire County Championships
Thirteen pupils from Years Eight to Lower Sixth competed at the Herefordshire and Worcestershire County Championships on Thursday 2 March. Performance highlights included 2nd place for Lexi Agoston in her age category, 4th place for Dylan Teasdale in his race and Jacob Bunyan and Luke Jones achieving 7th and 8th place respectively.
Both Lexi and Dylan will qualify for the Herefordshire and Worcestershire team to compete in the National Championships. Jacob and Luke may also qualify, depending on final selection decisions. All those taking part acquitted themselves very well.
Abberley Hall Relays
On Sunday 5 March our Under 13 Boys’ and Girls’ teams competed in the Abberley Hall relays. The Boys ran strongly and achieved 3rd place, whilst the Girls put in a great performance to win their competition. The quickest individual was Lexi Agoston, who set the Under 13 girls course record with 7:07 for the 2km course – an amazing time given the hills involved!
County Cross-Country Championships
Five Year Seven pupils travelled to Wolverley, near Kidderminster, to compete in the County Cross-Country Championships, alongside Year Five and Six pupils from RGS The Grange. All ran well, with an outstanding performance from Evie Kilby who qualified to represent Worcestershire at the National Championships later this month by finishing 2nd in her race. This makes a total of 4 pupils running for the County across the different Year groups.
RGS Worcester pupils have had an excellent Cross-Country season with many exceptional individual and team performances. There have also been strong performances from runners at RGS The Grange, which bodes well for future years!
Well done and congratulations to all of our Cross-Country runners for your efforts across the season. Good luck to those who qualified in the National Championships. We look forward to hearing more exciting updates of success next year!
