Weaving Future Pathways
Sixteen Upper Sixth Textiles and Art students had an exciting opportunity on Wednesday 1 March, when they participated in a Weaving and Photography Workshop led by Manuel Gross and Flett Bertram from Hereford College of Arts.
Manuel and Flett discussed the various opportunities available in the creative field and encouraged students to consider creative pathways beyond school. They also shared their own creative backgrounds and introduced the students to Hereford College of Art’s BA Photography and Textiles course.
During the workshop, students were introduced to new creative skills such as weaving, photography, and using filters and light for photoshoots. Both Manuel and Flett commended the students for their enthusiasm and engagement during the workshop.
Photography Course Leader, Manuel Gross, commented: “We needed a whole day! The students were really enthusiastic, were engaged, and had a really great attitude”.
Textiles Design Course Leader, Flett Bertham, commented: “They didn’t want to stop! It was great to see the pupils interacting”.
Head of Lower School and Teacher of Art, Mrs Angie Newport also commented on how well the pupils engaged with the workshop and on how some of the Art students are already thinking about how they can possibly incorporate weaving ideas into their current practical work and A Level portfolios.
In the Trinity term, RGS Worcester will host a workshop for Year Ten pupils with RGS Alumni, and we hope to welcome Hereford College of Arts back to the School next year for a similar workshop.
We would like to extend our gratitude to Manuel and Flett for taking the time to visit RGS Worcester and for inspiring our students to develop their creative skills. We hope that such collaborations will continue to enhance our students’ learning experiences.
