House Rowing Competition
The annual House Indoor Rowing competition took place on Tuesday 7 February in the Performing Arts Centre which had been transformed from a performance space into a wash of flashing technicolour, complete with a disco ball, rowing machines and a huge display screen for pupils to track their House and their competitors. Pupils from across the School and teachers came together to battle it out over a 1600m relay in support of their House, friends, and teachers. The event provided a fantastic atmosphere and display of camaraderie!
The Lower School race was led by Elgar, who showcased a stage full of competitors rolling on and off the rowing machines. They achieved an impressive winning time of 6 minutes and 30 seconds. Following them were Wylde in 2nd place, Whiteladies in 3rd place and Ottley in 4th place.
In the Middle School race, Ottley made a comeback and won with a time of 5 minutes and 30 seconds. They were followed by Wylde in 2nd place, Elgar in 3rd place and Whiteladies in 4th place.
The competition was intense in the Sixth Form race, with the Rowing Captains leading their respective teams. Elgar took the victory with a winning time of 5 minutes and 6 seconds, closely followed by Ottley in 2nd place, Wylde came in 3rd place and Whiteladies finished in 4th place. Only 23 seconds covered the times of all four teams.
The pupils showed great support for the staff race with Elgar ultimately taking the crown after some penalties were added, followed by Ottley, Wylde and Whiteladies. Mr Messent provided informative yet light-hearted commentary, which added to the enjoyment of the event for everyone.
Congratulations to all the participants for their hard work and determination.
