Supporting the Local Community
Charitable activity is important at The RGS Worcester Family of Schools. We support a significant number of charities both in the local community and internationally. All of our fundraising activity is pupil-led and provides an opportunity for the pupils to make a meaningful contribution to society.
During the Michaelmas term, pupils at RGS were extremely busy and committed to assisting those in need, raising funds for a number of local charities:
- The sum of £919 was raised from the retiring collection at the Carol Service in the Cathedral for Worcester’s Myriad Centre, which provides high quality, person-centred day respite services to support young people living with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) and their families and carers.
- RGS pupils and their families donated 13 boxes of food and toiletries, along with £600 in supermarket vouchers to the Worcester Foodbank just before Christmas. A large proportion of the money was raised by pupils donating to the Foodbank instead of organising a ‘Secret Santa’.
- Staff donations in place of sending staff Christmas cards raised £270 for Acorns Children’s Hospice, which included a very generous donation from a member of staff.
- Finally, the sum of £508 was raised for the New Hope Children’s Charity through the Christmas Jumper day on the last day of term.
A HUGE thank you to all those who contributed or helped in any way and a special thanks to the Charity Committee and particularly Mrs Sturdy for her tireless efforts to co-ordinate our charity work.
We are happy to accept donations to the Worcester Foodbank Appeal all year round. Please contact Mrs Margaret Sturdy if you would like to donate, or bring your donation items to Whiteladies (first floor).
