Mince Pie Head
The Mince Pie Head 2023, hosted by Worcester Rowing Club, provided the perfect festive finale to the year for the rowers. The event brought together four of the clubs based on the River Severn with Worcester Rowing Club, King’s School, University of Birmingham and RGS Worcester all taking to the water for a 4.5km Head of River time trial.
RGS Worcester entered crews from Year Ten to the Upper Sixth for the main event followed by the Year Nine pupils taking to the water for a Mini Mince Pie Head. In total 19 crews from RGS Worcester raced. The fastest RGS Worcester crew rowed the course in a time of 14 minutes 36 seconds. This was the fastest quad of the day. The boats were decorated with Christmas decorations by the pupils who also wore Christmas outfits!
Whilst the rowers enjoyed the racing, the parents and supporters enjoyed mince pies and mulled wine whilst offering their support and encouragement to the competitors.
The RGS Worcester rowers have had an excellent term of rowing including training, two fixtures and their training camp in Portugal. Results include a win for the Open J18 4x of Harry Rutter, Benjamin Koutrouki, Tobey Butler and Matthew Smith at Evesham Junior Head and Wycliffe Small Boats Head. A Gold medal for Menna Sutton at Wycliffe Small Boats Head and a Silver medal for Matthew Smith and Benjamin Koutrouki in the Open Junior 18 2x at Wycliffe Small Boats Head.
The Rowing Team wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
