Fashioning Success at Young Fashion Designer UK
On Saturday 8 October we welcomed sixteen finalists for the Young Fashion Designer UK Competition. Students from Yorkshire to Oxfordshire and several counties in between, joined us for the morning where they exhibited their work and had the opportunity to talk about their design and manufacturing processes with industry professionals who judge the competition.
This year’s competition saw a special visit from Alumna Erin Howard, who is now studying Fashion Design at the London College of Fashion after completing her A levels at RGS Worcester this year. Erin exhibited her Punk-inspired Personal Study, achieving the Category Prize for Portfolio Presentation.
The quality of work on display was exceptional and incredibly inspiring for all attendees. We were delighted that Lower Sixth student Teyah Farmer was invited to exhibit her GCSE piece, inspired by local architecture and was awarded the Category Prize for Fashion Styling. Also awarded was Joyce Li, who won First Prize for her entry into the Year Seven and Year Eight Category.
During the competition, the students took part in a creative weaving workshop and enjoyed a talk from a previous competition winner about her career in fashion since winning the competition in 2017. Teyah, Erin and the other finalists shared their experiences of studying Fashion at both A level and within their degree courses at a range of universities. The event provided an opportunity to network and establish new friendships and we are incredibly proud of our students who were excellent ambassadors for RGSW.
The finalists, parents and teachers thoroughly enjoyed the event which is a real celebration of excellence within Fashion and Textiles at GCSE and A Level.
Congratulations to both Teyah and Erin for their fantastic achievements!
