RGS Netball is Buzzing as Miss Gibbons joins the Wasps
Congratulations to Head of Netball, Miss Ellie Gibbons following the announcement this week of her selection for the Coventry based Superleague Netball team, the Wasps. Ellie joins many of the region’s best players to create a strong squad for the 2022 season. The Wasps Netball team was formed in 2016 as a partnership with the Premiership Rugby team, Wasps RFC and since 2017 their senior team has played in the Netball Superleague and they were Superleague Champions in 2017 and 2018.
Wasps Head Coach, Mel Mansfield said: “As part of the evolution of the club, we are proud to announce the squad for the 2022 season. Alongside a vastly experienced core, we have selected an exciting group of talented, young athletes who we believe are the future of the club and bring the skill, hard work and key values that represent our club. We are proud of our history, and recognise that we are now looking forward to a new performance cycle with a greater presence of more local players from the region. We have a clear vision, strong leadership and have already had some great sessions with this group as we start the 2022 campaign. I am looking forward to getting to know this group and working with them as people and players, both on and off the court and nurturing the positive team culture that we have always been so proud of at Wasps.”
Miss Gibbons, Head of Netball adds: “I am thrilled to be joining Wasps and to have secured my first professional contract at such a great franchise. The club has been incredibly welcoming and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve this season. A big thank you to RGS for being so supportive of my new venture and I hope to act as a positive role model particularly for our girls here at school.”
