National Hockey Success
Three RGS pupils were selected to represent national teams in Hockey. Alice Atkinson was selected for the England Under 18 squad, Amelia Lane was selected for the Wales Under 18 squad and Caitlin Lane was selected for the Wales Under 16 squad. The girls have worked incredibly hard to reach this high level in Hockey and this is a well-deserved and exciting opportunity for them to play international matches.
Amelia played at the Futures cup which is part of England Hockey over the summer and also at the National School Games. Amelia explains: “During the summer I was lucky enough to be selected for a number of international matches for Wales Under 18s and Under 19s. We played a test series against Ulster in Colwyn Bay, followed by a test series against England at Millfield two weeks later, with the Wales Under 19 team beating England 3-2 in the first game.”
Amelia adds: “I also spent four days at Loughborough University playing for Wales Under 18s at the UK National School Games, which was an amazing experience. The highlight of the summer however, has to be the four days I spent at Futures Cup in St Albans, playing against England and Scotland. Wales Under 18s made the final, drawing with England but unfortunately losing on penalty shuffles.”
With Hockey clearly a flourishing Sport at RGS Worcester, we look forward to continuing to support all our pupils in Hockey and also in the breadth of Sport that RGS offers. With the new Worcester International Hockey Centre completion fast approaching, we also look forward to providing an inspiring facility for RGS pupils and the local community.
