Computer Science Education Week
To commemorate the annual Computer Science Education Week, Pupils at RGS Worcester have taken part in a range of exciting coding activities to learn about algorithms, computational-thinking and programming, through a combination of lesson activities and Co-curricular events.
CSED Week 2020 has seen pupils take part in a ‘Junior House Cipher Challenge’, where teams had to decrypt secret coded messages. In what was a highly competitive event held over two lunchtimes. First place was shared by Ottley and Wylde.
Year Seven and Eight pupils have completed an ‘Hour of Code’ in lessons, demystifying coding and showing that computer science is not rocket science – in fact, anybody can learn the basics! The Hour of Code, organised by the non-profit Code.org and over 100 others, is a global movement that believes the pupils of today are ready to learn critical skills for 21st Century success.
Computers are everywhere, changing every industry on the planet, but fewer than half of all schools teach Computer Science. The good news is, we are well on our way to changing this across the RGSW Family of Schools. We have thriving Code Clubs and are utilising our Digital Learning Programme to teach essential skills, resulting in an increasing uptake of the subject at GCSE and A Level amongst both boys and girls.
