Ben Sutton’s St Lucia Cricket Trip
An account by Ben Sutton, Lower Sixth, of his Cricket Trip to St Lucia:
“Over half term, I joined the Under 17s Cricket team in St Lucia as part of a squad of fifteen. We were playing against the St Lucia Under 17s, with four one-day games and four T20 matches played in the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium. We started with a loss but at the end of the series we were 3-2 down with one game to play and we had the opportunity to level the scores. In this game, St Lucia set us 170 to win from 20 overs. I scored 70 from 52 balls in a partnership of 148 with the opening batsman. The game was evenly poised with 11 needed from the last over and then 2 needed from the last ball – I managed a single and the match went to a Super Over. Unfortunately, St Lucia chased down our target of 5 and therefore took the series. A Super Over was a suitable ending for a fantastic tour that had a high standard of competitive matches.”
